Walk the Level 1 cut-through near Round1 at Westfield Galleria at Roseville and you are standing in what used to be Sears. The department store gave way to a Round1 and a Cinemark theater. The conversion also left behind new space with no previous tenant, and the mall is filling it with places where groups pay to play for an hour.
Nearly five years after that theater opened, the same pattern runs across both sides of Galleria Boulevard. The newest arrivals at the Galleria and the Fountains at Roseville work on a clock. You book a time slot, bring a group and leave with a score or a story. The 2026 holiday season is the first time enough of them are open, or about to open, for that to shape how a December Saturday in this part of Roseville gets planned.
The old Sears footprint became the entertainment wing
The Cinemark Roseville Galleria Mall and XD opened on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, with 14 screens, in the redevelopment it shares with Round1. When it opened, Cinemark announced Luxury Loungers in every auditorium, an XD auditorium with a wall-to-wall screen and 11.1-channel surround sound, D-BOX motion seats and a full-service bar. Next door, Round1's Roseville location lists bowling, arcade games, karaoke, billiards and party rooms.
For a few years, that pair was what the Galleria offered beyond shopping. The Escape Game, in Suite 1220, adds a different kind of outing. It runs five 60-minute themes, including Cosmic Crisis, Timeliner, The Depths, The Heist and Special Ops, and its multi-room games take up to eight players.
The mall's management says this direction is deliberate. Speaking to The Sacramento Bee this fall, Galleria senior general manager Jeff Richardson said the center is intentionally expanding beyond traditional retail.
"We are balancing our offering to create a destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment."
He told the Bee that the Galleria has added more than 50 "only in market" retailers since the pandemic, meaning stores that cannot be found within 100 miles of the center. In the same report, the entertainment tenants are framed the same way, as first-to-market draws.
The Fountains joined in this summer
Across the boulevard, Escapology held its grand opening at the Fountains at Roseville on Aug. 4, 2026, with ten themed rooms, according to the Placer Sentinel. The rooms include Now You See Me, Batman: The Dark Knight Challenge, Scooby-Doo and the Spooky Castle Adventure, A Pirate's Curse, Mansion Murder, Lost City and Haunted House. The City of Roseville's July to September 2026 quarterly report lists it as a new business at 1017 Galleria Blvd.
That makes this Escapology's first holiday season. It also means the two shopping centers now hold 15 escape themes between them, ten at the Fountains and five at The Escape Game, on opposite sides of the same boulevard. A group with visiting relatives can book one room this weekend and a different one over the Thanksgiving break without repeating a theme.
The same city report lists the retail side of the Galleria's 2026 additions as FIOBOC, 5.11, State & Liberty and Mochi Munch. Stores are still arriving, but the biggest new draws on both sides of the boulevard are the ones that sell a time slot.
December brings two more, and neither has a firm date yet
The Galleria has two more timed-play tenants on the way, and both point to December.
Great Big Game Show is going into the Level 1 Round1 cut-through near The Escape Game, in space created by the Sears conversion rather than space taken from an existing store. Richardson told the Bee the attraction is targeting a December opening. The company has more than 25 locations, including two in the Bay Area, and the Bee, citing the Sacramento Business Journal, reported that Roseville would be its first in the Sacramento area. On its own Roseville page, the company describes rotating mini-games that mix strategy, trivia and speed tests, and it still lists the location as coming soon.
Sandbox VR lists its Roseville Galleria location as coming soon at 1151 Galleria Blvd., Suite 102, next to the Macy's entrance, and shows an opening date of December 25, 2026. The company describes its games as room-scale, multiplayer, full-body virtual reality with tracked movement, haptic vests and physical props. Its directions point visitors to park on the Macy's side.
If both open on schedule, the Galleria will end the year with a theater, a bowling and arcade center, an escape-room venue, a game show and a VR arena under one roof. Most of them are clustered around the old Sears footprint and the Macy's end of the mall. Opening dates for new attractions often shift, so check each company's page before building a holiday plan around either one.
Two tree lightings, one week apart
The holiday events at both centers already have dates. Santa photos at the Galleria begin Friday, Nov. 6, the day after this post goes live. The two tree lightings fall on back-to-back Saturdays, so a household can attend both without them competing.
| Date | Center | Event |
|---|---|---|
| Nov. 6 to Dec. 24 | Westfield Galleria | Photos with Santa, Center Court near JCPenney; reservations recommended |
| Nov. 9 and 16, 4 to 7 PM | Westfield Galleria | Santa Paws pet photo nights |
| Sat., Nov. 14, 4 to 6 PM | Westfield Galleria | Tree Lighting Ceremony |
| Sat., Nov. 21, 5 to 7 PM | The Fountains | Tree Lighting Celebration, lighting at 5:15 PM |
| Nov. 23 and 30, 4 to 8 PM | Westfield Galleria | Santa Paws pet photo nights |
| Dec. 1 to 12 | The Fountains | Elf Quest at participating locations |
| Dec. 5 and 6, 10 AM to 5 PM | The Fountains | Pet Pictures with Santa at Pet Food Express |
| Sun., Dec. 6, 8 to 9 AM | Westfield Galleria | Santa Cares sensory-friendly visit; reservations required |
| Sun., Dec. 6, 5 PM | Westfield Galleria | Menorah Lighting Ceremony |
| Dec. 7, 4 to 9 PM | Westfield Galleria | Santa Paws pet photo night |
| Dec. 11 to Jan. 4 | Westfield Galleria | The Giving Machine |
The Fountains' Nov. 21 evening also includes carols, crafts, letters to Santa and an indoor walk past decorated trees. Sunday, Dec. 6, is the busiest single day on the Galleria's calendar. It opens with the quiet early Santa Cares hour, meant for children who do better in a calm setting, and closes with the Menorah Lighting at 5 PM.
Like the newer tenants, the seasonal calendar leans on bookings. Santa photos recommend reservations, Santa Cares requires them, and every escape room and VR session in the district is sold by the time slot. A December outing here now comes together the way a dinner reservation does, picked in advance and built around a start time.
The patio half of the plan arrives in 2027
The piece that would tie a booked activity to a sit-down meal outdoors is still behind construction fencing. Westfield calls the project The Trails, an open-air space that will change the Galleria's west side with pedestrian paths, shaded gathering areas and dining patios. Its announced tenants are Design Within Reach for modern furniture and lighting, Doppio Zero for Italian pastas and Neapolitan pizza, and King's Fish House for seafood.
Westfield's project page currently lists The Trails as "Coming Summer 2027" and shows no opening dates for the individual tenants. Earlier coverage gave slightly different targets: The Sacramento Bee forecast spring 2027, and a May 2026 Sacramento Business Journal report said tenants were expected to open in June 2027. Westfield's current page is the more recent word. Skims has also signed a lease for a roughly 5,000-square-foot store near Nordstrom, its first in the Sacramento area, but the brand has not announced an opening date.
Measured against Richardson's goal of shopping, dining and entertainment, this holiday season delivers the entertainment, with two more openings due in December. The outdoor dining has a construction schedule and an announced lineup, and its patios are listed for Summer 2027.
Holiday weekends near the Galleria tend to bring visitors, and the questions that come with them, so it helps to know which nights belong to which tree lighting and which attractions are still listed as coming soon. If those visits get you thinking about your own plans for 2027, Mercedeh Sheik would be glad to talk them through with you. Schedule a private consultation whenever the timing feels right.
