This is my Haft Seen for this year. Iranians also are celebrating the Year of the Snake!
Norouz-zetaan Pirouz! Happy Persian New Years. I'm happy and proud to share this cultural celebration with you. For the next 13 days, Iranians (some use the term "Persian") will be celebrating the new year w their loved one.
The Haft-Seen Table (هفتسین) is a traditional arrangement displayed during Nowruz, the Persian New Year, symbolizing renewal, prosperity, and the arrival of spring. It includes seven items that start with the Persian letter "س" (S), each carrying symbolic meaning:
Sabzeh (سبزه) – Sprouted wheat, barley, or lentils, symbolizing rebirth and renewal.
Samanu (سمنو) – A sweet pudding made from wheat germ, representing strength and the power of patience.
Senjed (سنجد) – Dried oleaster fruit, symbolizing love and wisdom.
Seer (سیر) – Garlic, representing health and protection against evil.
Seeb (سیب) – Apples, signifying beauty and good health.
Serkeh (سرکه) – Vinegar, symbolizing patience, wisdom, and the acceptance of aging.
Sumac (سماق) – A spice representing the color of sunrise and the triumph of good over evil.
In addition to these seven main elements, people often add other symbolic items to the table, such as:
A mirror – Reflection and self-awareness.
Goldfish – Life, movement, and progress.
Coins (Sekkeh, سکه) – Prosperity and wealth.
Candles – Light and happiness.
Painted eggs – Fertility and creation.
A book of wisdom – Such as the Shahnameh, the Quran, or the Divan of Hafez, representing knowledge and enlightenment.
Each item carries a deep cultural significance, celebrating hope, renewal, and the start of a prosperous new year. 🌸✨
